In general, the person who is featured in an autobiography has been an active participant in important occasions or has articulated unique ideas or proposals which were recorded in a documentary form. Barbara Heck left neither letters or declarations. Actually, the only evidence we have for matters like the date of her marriage is from second-hand sources. No primary source exists that can be used to reconstruct Barbara Heck's motives and actions during most of her lifetime. However, she's regarded as a hero in the past of Methodism. In this case, the job of a biography is to dispel the legend or myth and if it is able to be done, describe the true person who was immortalized.

Abel Stevens, a Methodist historian in 1866, wrote about this. Barbara Heck has taken the first place on the New World's ecclesiastical list in the wake of Methodism. The reason for this is that the history of Barbara Heck must be mostly based on her contributions to the greater cause and her name will forever be linked. Barbara Heck played a lucky part in the founding of Methodism as it was conceived in both North America as well as Canada. She's famous for her way in which successful groups and organizations often celebrate their founding.
